The National Institute for Fisheries Development (INDP) was created in 1992 to focus on marine and fisheries research with the promotion of the economical and social development of the fishery sector. INDP is structured into four departments: The Marine Research and Aquaculture Department (including Statistics Division), the Department of Promotion of the Development of Fishery, the Department of Studies and Projects and the Department of Administration and Finance. INDP has administrative and financial as well as scientific and technical autonomy. The total number of personnel employed by INDP is approximately 100 and 58 % of them are scientists or technicians. The combined budget (including project funding which comprises more than 50% of the budget) is approximately € 8.36 million. The Institute operates three vessels.
